feb~week 7/366 {be my valenine}

when events of the day leave one's head whirling, one blogs about the previous week for distraction.  it's for sanity, really.

it's been a rough day.  life throwin' you a big ol' curve-ball kind of day.  no bueno.  wednesday has to be better. technically, it is wednesday now.  howdy, wednesday.  please be nice to me.

without further ado, i give you week 6...
Photobucket

we made it home from dance competition.  in one piece.  but it required a couple days to recover.  before home, we stopped at whole foods market.  essential oils always lure me in.  take a gander at this "road rage relief."  funny, eh?  however, the lavender gets me every time. hahhhhh...

Photobucket

we made valentine boxes for our homeschool skate party.
tip: paint brushes could possibly double as drum-sticks.

Photobucket
unlike their mama, in the days of her youth, the girls are not skaters.  nator aspires to be, one day.  gracie simply tolerated the skates for 2 minutes before taking them off.

we are in the season of dance competition and music recital y'all.  can't go messin' that up, you know.

mama was given this look until they came off...
Photobucket sweet, yes?  but all is better when skates are off and friends are in tow.

Photobucket

a tea party for all...
all american girl dolls, that is.  plus two.

i just noticed that the 'baby' pictures of my babies are shown in this pic.  right there... behind the dolls. {excuse me while a grab another tissue}

Photobucket
our new traditional valentine's dinner.  at home.
two years... and going strong.

Photobucket
shopping for last minute decor.
gifts: this year... birthstone barbies for the girlies.
assigned seating.  heart straws.  gettin' fancy. hand-made decorations.
gangsta necklace... complete with twinkle light.  like i said... fancy.  if you turn the light on, you must be kissed.  it's some sort of mistletoe rule, according to gracie.

Photobucket
flowers. chocolate cake. dancin'. candles. music. lasagna.

we're lovin' this new family tradition.
do you have any family valentine traditions?

Results

Yesterday, after an afternoon of homeschool events and evening dance classes canceled, we had a lot of this...

"Is it snowing yet??!"

Times 83.

The anticipation when we tucked the girls in was the same as Christmas eve.  We had high hopes for morning.

However, this was our result...

Photobucket

A thin sheet of ice.

Photobucket

Our outdoor thermometer threw itself down in a tantrum of absent snow.

The weather person failed to mention that it would lightly snow in our surrounding city... and skip our lil' town.  Boo.  Apparently, global warming has happened.

Hubs is working from home.  Several spots in the road leading to his office have been closed.  People in our neck of the woods don't know how to drive in this kind of weather.  From what we've heard, the roads that were operating, were speeding along at 5 mph.  Ummm... Safety first.  Right?

Schools are closed.  Ours isn't.  These girlies are excited about that.  I'm full of all kinds of sarcasm today.  Well, that's what we get when we take a day off, while others are 'in' school.  Love the beauty of a flexible schedule.  And wardrobe.  {you'll catch a peek of our school uniform -pj's- in the video below.  gotta love nator's pink/orange pants, blue/purple socks, and red snoopy shirt combo. ha!}

Okay... for the real reason you came.  The giveaway results.  Unless you really came here to see if it snowed, that is.  ;)

Congratulations, Amy!  Send me your email and I'll send you the code!

I'm off to discuss the pancreas, ancient China, spelling and vocabulary.  The party never stops around here.

How many snow days have you had this year?  *sigh*

what happens in the mom taxi, stays in the mom taxi

After a day of school {hello history and science. we've missed you.}, and an evening of errands, we looked like this...

Photobucket

Jasmine was the first to hit the hay... on her new bed.  Of course, I needed to buy her something more posh to go with the master bedroom makeover I'm finally allowing myself.  ha.  I think it's safe to say, she likes it.

Photobucket

Gracie started dreamland within seconds of Jasmine.  She usually sneaks off to bed, this one.  Is there anything sweeter than a little one drifting off to sleep with one of their dolls?  I had to braid Julie's hair, just. like. Gracie's.  You know, so it wouldn't tangle while she slept.

Let me just soak up that moment.

Be still, my mama heart.

Photobucket

Nator.  I could just eat her sweetness for dessert.  I ended up sneaking her into bed with me since she was still awake at tuck-in-time.  Dad is still in Washington.  Tomorrow will be Gracie's turn, I'm sure.  She wears a mask at night, which comes in handy... say, if your mom is posting on the ol' blog really late and there's a glow coming from her computer. ;)

Wanna go for another ride with us? ;)

Over and out.

Mama needs some shut-eye, too.

But there won't be any pictures of that.  ;)

Diaries of a Young Mom in 2004

Gracie {age 2} and Nator {age 4}
Serving as pastors, and a mom of two precious littles, life was very busy.  {still is}  This mom managed to jot down a few memories in a notebook, she recently re-discovered...

January 2004
"Gracie started sitting on the potty.  I'm not sure, but it just might be an excuse to take her diaper off.  She's beginning to speak understandably."

"I always tell the girls I'm going to eat them and nibble on their neck, bellybutton, armpits, ribs... always good for a belly laugh.  Today, I was 'eating' Nator's armpit and neck, making her laugh, so I asked her what I could eat next?  Her bellybutton?  She said, 'You had enough.'"

"I just rocked both of my baby girls to sleep for  their much needed naps. (Monday is usually a recovery day from Sunday.)  Time is going by so quickly.  I wish I could keep my little girls little for a little bit longer!"

 {library fun}

"I was getting ready to leave for worship practice when all I had to do was get Gracie up and dressed... only to find that she (at some point) took her diaper off (as usual).  She was sound asleep, bed wet, and her onsie still snapped between her legs.  Funny!"

 {hugging her baby, she couldn't sleep without}

"Nator kept giving me hugs and kisses all through dinner at Olive Garden.  Gracie put her finger over her mouth and told Daddy to 'be quiet'.  There was a baby in a carrier next to our booth.  These girls are just precious, and I'm glad they are ours."

"Nator has hearts on her shirt with the words 'Old Navy' underneath.  She says that it says... Loves Mommy."

"I cannot get Gracie to keep her diaper on!  Ugh!"

"Nator's famous saying right now is... In 10 minutes."

February 2004
"This has been an exciting month!  Gracie proceeded to color all over herself with a marker.  Not once, but twice.   Then... {insert a stinky mess only a mother would clean}.   Boy, you can't turn your back on this one for a minute!"

 {finger painting with mom's favorite lipstick.  she stares at me to see what my plan of action will be.  grab the camera, of course! ha.}

"Nator somehow flooded the bathroom with toilet water using the plunger.  Water was even soaked in the carpet a couple feet into our bedroom."

{their innocent looks}

"Nator squirted Gracie's pre-measured medicine on me.  She was so sweet about it, it was hard to be upset."

"Gracie likes to pat people on the head and start playing Duck, Duck, Goose... by herself.  Too cute."

April 2004
"Nator said, 'I say I love you, Mom, and you say I love you, too, okay?  I love you.'  I replied, 'I love you, too.'  Nator responded,  'You did it, Mom!  Very good!'"

"Using plastic Easter eggs, Nator wanted me to help her make a Barbie cake.  The ingredients were: sugar, fruit snacks, oatmeal, grape-nut flakes, milk, strawberries, cool whip, and candles.  Oh, and she just remembered the icing!"

May 2004
"When Nator awoke, I asked her to go potty.  She said she couldn't because her pee-pee was sleeping..."

"I was holding and rocking both girls in my lap.  Nator was being a bit fussy, so I asked Gracie to go make Nator some (pretend) tea.  She said, 'No.'   Nator, starting to cry, said, 'Gracie made my heart broke.'  Later, I heard Nator tell Gracie to sit in time-out because her heart broke.  Sad, but cute."

"While Daddy was tucking Nator in one night, she asked Jesus to live in her heart.  A week later, while I was tucking her in, I asked her where Jesus lives.  She said, 'He's stuck in the clouds.'"

 {really... is there anything sweeter than sleeping babies in footy pjs?}

"I took the girls outside to swim.  Nator found a feather.  After I explained what it was, she held it up and said, 'Here bird!'  She wanted the bird to come get it.  I love the way she thinks."

 {gracie's famous "cheeeeeeeese" camera pose}

June 2004
"The first time the girls saw a beautiful rainbow, Nator was so excited.  She wanted us to go catch it!"

"For one little girl who used to hate clothes and shoes, that is now the first thing Gracie wants to do in the morning."

"I took the girls to the movies today.  One character was sad because they didn't have a mom.  Nator leaned over and said, 'I'm happy I have my mommy.'"

{when we could all fit in a basket}

"Last night, tucking the girls in bed, Nator grabbed my face and kissed me on my cheek, forehead, nose, other cheek, chin, and all over my neck.  She was too cute."

"I put both girls in time-out for about 3 minutes.  When they got up, Nator gave me a big hug and said, 'Thank you for getting me out of time-out.  When I grow up, I'm gonna be a mommy just like you are.'  If she was trying to butter me up, it was working!"

"During a day of taking the girls to the movies to watch Ice Age and run a few errands, I thought I might lose my sanity!  While waiting in line at customer service, both girls were in their usual spots in the shopping cart.  They fought over who got to hold the umbrella.  Nator bit the fire out of Gracie's arm, arguing over who got to hold the seat-belt on the shopping cart (probably learned that from Gracie).  Gracie spilled her Ziploc bag of cheerios all over the check-out aisle floor.  With sweat running down my face, I found myself on my hands and knees picking up scattered cheerios.  I'm thankful no one was waiting behind us.  I finally decided to just take the umbrella, which left both girls in tears.  I wanted to cry, too, but didn't want to draw even more stares.  They also decided to re-arrange the shelves and play hide-n-seek at the health food store.  I usually make it in and out of that store a.s.a.p.  Between all of this, the light rain, and the logistics of getting them in and out of the van, I was a bundle of nerves.  As soon as I unloaded the van, it was rest time!  I think I'm ready to retire the grocery shopping!"

August 2004
"Gracie buckled herself in her old car seat in the living room.  She dropped a cheerio out of the cup she was eating from.  No problem.  She picked it up with her toes, brought her foot to her hands, then popped it in her mouth!"

September 2004
"Nator said (when I gave her echinacea) this morning, 'When I get medicine, my sore throat runs away.  It says... ahhhhh!'"

 {starting pre-k}

October 2004
"... I just found the girls coloring their toes with colors, as well as the table."

{snow white twins}

December 2004
"Just getting in from our family vacation from Branson, Missouri.  Nator told Gracie, 'I love you.  You're my little sister and I'm going to take care of you.'  Since then, Gracie has been telling everyone that Nator is going to take care of her.  Too sweet!"

{their first snow}

**********************************************
This young mom, her children (and husband) survived the tales written and {many} unwritten of 2004.  They even lived to tell of adventures they would have in 2005...  but that's a post for another day.

This young mom also learned the fine art of popping just enough popcorn into Ziplock bags, to entertain busy hands, while whisking through the grocery aisles... at speeds exceeding store limit, I'm sure.  There was no time to read labels.  If possible, that had to be done online, beforehand.  In the store, she was too busy finding room for groceries among toddlers taking residence in the cart.

She also learned the value of masking tape.  Yes, she got puzzled looks, as church nursery workers tried to figure it out.  An explanation would always follow, but she eventually got used to telling people that the tape was for the 2 year old's diapers.  It turns out, the diaper just needed a little reinforcement to make it 'strip-proof'.

This mama is also extremely grateful to {now} have a much better camera, less flowery comforter set, and the choice to homeschool.  ;)

Hahhh... Sweet, sweet memories of 2004.  Sometimes, I wish I could revisit those girlie days of baby-dolls and dress up.

Besides Chocolate

Our Boardwalk extravaganza.  I know, it's all downhill after reading about yesterday's chocolate treasures.

We called friends to meet us, but they weren't up to the spontaneous challenge.  They wanted us to stop by their home, but we ended up staying at the boardwalk for several hours.  Doing what, you ask?

It's really not possible, in this season of life, to walk past a merry-go-round and 'not' ride it.  Daddy usually takes the girls on this ride... while mom takes video from down below.

While I'm not a fan of spinning in verticle circles, hubs is not a fan of heights, so I took my turn on the Ferris wheel with the girls.  Hubs waited for us with cool water.  Love him.

Don't let Gracie's expression fool you.  She was enjoying herself.  :)  They both had a blast.  On one side of the Ferris wheel, we can watch little ants... a.k.a. people, scurrying about.  On the other side, a sea of sailboats floating peacefully in the water.

After our cool drink, we enjoyed the cool zone {there should be a warning sign: "Due to cool-humid midst you could leave with 80's hair fashion"}...

...a lil' outdoor concert, shopping, the dancing fountain, watching a lil' fire juggling, and a train ride!

{I had a feeling -because music was playing-
she was about to bust a move again, so I had the camera ready...
Excuse my crazy laugh.  DK laughs at my laugh.}

We can have fun doing just about anything, but after all this excitement, we opted to take our sweaty, sticky selves home.  You're welcome, friends.

Nothing like a good stay-cation, filled with great memories, and your own bed!

Next up?  The water park extravaganza!  And my dislike of water-proof, disposable cameras.

Sweet Tooth

I think someone in our family has a sweet tooth.
And it's not me...

This time.

I started a quick list of things to get at the store tomorrow.
Triscuits.
Fruit.
The rest was added by a lil' girl who shall remain nameless.
{Starts with a 'Gr' and ends with an 'acie'.  The same lil' girl who made this.}
Just sayin'.

She's a smart girl, that one.
She figures she'll balance it out with some 'berokley' {aka... broccoli}.
It's actually her favorite veggie.

Mama taught her well.

Hi ho, hi ho... It's off to dance we go!

First stop, the library.
Gracie asks, "Mom, did they have libraries when you were little?"
???????
I remember a big room full of books.
No entertainment to speak of.
No computer to help me easily find a book. No, Ma'am.
I mostly remember the mega index card dresser!
It was quite intimidating...
As well as the dinosaurs I could see through the windows...
according to my girls. ;)

Now, off to our summer dance class!
This is Gracie's second round of Ballet/Tap. She was soooo excited!

A-Nator was equally as excited!
This is her very first experience.

We LOVED their new teacher.

This cracked me up.
A-Nator was simply asked to hold her hand up
to give a visual for the spinning girls.
After the first girl, she says,
"My hand's already gettin' tired."
Apparently, her hand was really heavy.
The second ballerina is Gracie. :)

Journalist for the Family Team Times

She walks in my bedroom with her pad and pencil.
"Mommy, I'm going to interview you."
She came up with her own questions,
but only wrote down the answers...

What is the best thing that ever happened to you?
Of course, I said the girls and their Daddy.

What is your favorite color?
I can't pick just one, but I do like red & pink.

What is your favorite number?
I don't have one, but she pressed me. So, 8 it is.

Do you like taking pictures?
Yes.

What was your happiest day?
The day my girls were born. ;)

What is your favorite fruit?
Mmmm, so many to pick from...
"Strowberries"
(with whip cream preferably)

Where do you like to go on a date?
"Fancy Rest Rot"
Wait, what?
She meant to write Fancy Restaurant! :)

What's your favorite flower?
I like all Flowers.

What's your favorite book?
I don't have a favorite, but I'm enjoying...
"The God's Honest Truth" right now.

Other writings by Gracie...
I found this sign on her bedroom door.
I'm guessing she would have liked a
"Do not disturb" sign,
since the "or not" side of the sign was visible.

Yep, we have a way with words.

Is this how Paula Deen started?

So, here's the scoop. The girls are getting old enough that they want to make some of their own snacks from time to time. I'm okay with that. I'll just help clean up the 14, 750 crumbs when it's over. They have to learn some time, right?

However, I had to draw the line when I came downstairs to find Gracie putting the finishing touches on this masterpiece.

Almond Butter AND Butter Toast
1 tbsp Almond Butter
1/2 stick of Butter
2 sliced whole wheat bread, toasted

You'll not find a child hiding under the table eating a stick of butter here. No... she wants it to look like an entree'.... Paula Deen style!

No worries. I saved her left ventricle this time by scooping all of the butter off and leaving the peanut butter.

Of course, like any great chef, she was not happy with someone messin' with her recipe. Who knows? Maybe she'll thank me for it one day...

Entrepreneur in the Making

Gracie: (coloring early in the morning) “Hey, Mom, I was thinking I could sell my artwork for about $30.00.”
Mama: “What would you do with $30.00?”
Gracie: “Buy a Webkinz. Wait. Is that enough to buy two big Webkinz?”

Should I be a bit disturbed by her desire to have more since we just bought a new webkinz 2 days ago? Maybe not. I'm reminded that we all have the desire for more. The only difference is that my list comes in the form of new clothes, paint and decor for my bedroom, an even better camera so my current one could be a back-up for those important family outings, new flooring, new cookware, cruise, improved landscaping, etc.

Although, I do have to give props to this little girl for doing her best to work for it. She says, "Mom my hand is really hurting, but I'll never give up."

Showing off her colored artist fingers.

I tell her that we are not selling her artwork in the front yard. This is her reaction...

Instead, I tell her that I will put them on my blog and see what comes of it. ;) Here's a few of her 20+ pictures she's made today. As I post this, she's still hard at work in hopes to buy the Jack Russell Terrier & Arctic Fox Webkinz.

Rainbow... complete with pot of gold.

Flowers... complete with roots.

Teddy Bear.

Gracie's personal favorite.
