This is not our first rodeo. *giggle* I love that expression.
No, truthfully, we've walked this park before. It's a month long rodeo, filled with all kinds of
We even saw camel rides. Camels. At a rodeo? At least we expected the ol' longhorn, the easter bunny, pigs, and the guy with the droopy neck. Mine will be headed in that direction, without intervention. Poor guy. I feel ya.
Hubs and I wanted to head to the beach this last day of winter, but alas, we felt compelled to use the coupon package we'd bought a month prior. We'd already missed all of the great concerts that came through, so what was the point, right? ;)
The girls survived the ol' barrel races, and standing in line. As did I.
Confession: {Many} mini-skirts, sporting young, tanned legs... don't bid well for the self-esteem of this nearly 40 year old. Let them wear their skirts while they may, I suppose. Before long, they will be sporting stretch marks, cellulite, and sore feet. Comfort will outweigh fashion. I should know. I tried walking the rodeo marathon in my cute boots one year. Ouch. *sigh* Just wait... they'll see. 'Mom' will, one day, be the first thing they think of when someone asks their name, too. ha.
No trip to the rodeo is complete, it seems, without a round on the Ferris wheel. This year, we found two.
Isn't this the cutest lil' kangaroo? So sweet, being held like a baby by its handler. And that's a real porcupine. If he hadn't raised his head in slow motion, and laid it back down, I would have thought it fake. He was real. Maybe on tranquilizers? Are they supposed to be that tame around people?
Mom is always the volunteer where heights are concerned. Hubs is happy to wait below.
Hubs and I were so ready to go. Too many people.
But not without exploring the butterflies on our way out. If you placed your finger in front of them, gently, they would crawl onto your finger. I enjoyed this first lil' guy. Poor thing showed signs of wear and tear from being mishandled. This second guy landed on my leg and gave me quite a jolt. He was intimidating to look at, and I couldn't bear to let him crawl on my fingers. Eeek! I tried shaking my leg, but this apparently wasn't his first rodeo either. ha!
Hubs to the rescue. He also held Gracie, who really wanted nothing to do with the little guys. Especially after one landed on her back. Nator followed me, exploring. Too fun.
To put it in Gracie's words, while watching Disney's Ocean this past week,
"God, you have a lot of imagination."
For the girls, the tram is almost always as exciting as the rodeo itself.
Too funny.
Maybe next year, we'll just ride the tram back and forth a few times, in our boots...
and call it a day. ha.
Do you feel the need to say "y'all" a few times after reading a Texas post? ;)
What a great way to spend the day! Looks like so much fun!
ReplyDeleteI love the picture of the longhorn, so majestic and beautiful!
Awesome, Awesome, Awesome Pictures!!! Looks like "ya'll" had a GREAT time;)
ReplyDeleteOh how fun! That's my kind of day! Is it still birthday week? ahaha! Have a great weekend. Blessings, SusanD
ReplyDeleteI love that kangaroo! Too cute!! Great pictures!! I have never been to a rodeo..I've been to state fairs and carnivals, but we don't have rodeos in NJ :(
ReplyDeleteI also LOVE what you said about the young girls one day being called "MOm", I think of that so often...as blessed and happy as I am and as much as I love being a mom, I can't say I miss having tan legs and being young, but there is a bit of nostalgia about it...it was a sweet time in my life as well :)
I miss the texas rodeo and the state fair!!! two of my favorite things to do when I lived there!!!
ReplyDeletegreat pics!!!
Camel rides? Really? That cracks me up. You are one brave girl for getting yourself on the ferris wheel. I got queasy just looking at the picture.
ReplyDeleteYou got some great pictures to capture the fun!
I miss the rodeo. Looks like a fun time was had by all.
ReplyDeleteI don't know - I think you look pretty good myself (in a totally noncreepy way. Really. Heh.). I want Gracie's penguin!
ReplyDeleteOh, and ya'll is just how I talk anyway - which might make some of the Ohioans I meet every day cock their heads at me since my southern accent went away long ago :)
Looked like a fun day! I can so relate about being almost 40 and seeing young girls in mini skirts...sigh...that is me no longer.
ReplyDeleteLoved all your pics, especially the last one of you and your hubs.
I'm still amazed that you're really almost 40. You look so young and adorable in these pictures!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun time "y'all" had at the rodeo! ;) So glad you didn't wear your boots this year! I've been down that road too and am glad I've finally "settled" for comfort. ;)
From one almost 40 year old (I turn 40 in November) to another, I feel your pain! I long for the bygone days of miniskirts too!!
ReplyDeleteYour rodeo reminded me of our Big E (Eastern States Exposition) which is held in Massachusetts every September. It is a huge fair with livestock competitions, barrel racing, vendors, and tons of delicious food.
Looks like you had a fantastic day!
Looks like a fun day. You wouldn't catch Sassy anywhere near those butterflies. She freaks out when go near her. :)
