Project 365 ~ Week 45

I'm pretty sure I was sleepwalking through Target this week.  That about sums it all up.  This mama is tuckered out.

We started our week gathering eggs...

I'm pretty sure the Amish life is not for us.  {You can read a small part of our experience here.}  Can you see the two green eggs?  Crazy, huh?

We brought Alice and The Mad Hatter to the Halloween insanity fund raiser {we missed trick-or-treating for UNICEF this year - boo}, to be among 1,589 others who were bearing costumes.  We snapped these pix before the crowd.

Gracie's job was to collect 4 tickets for a cake walk.  It wouldn't have surprised me if she'd said, "Cake walk, 4 tickets!" in her sleep.  I could have muttered them in my sleep, too.  We've been known to talk in our sleep, you know.

Nator was such a sweetheart...  Willing to help work the booths, if needed, and wait patiently for sister's job to finish.  Daddy did a great job entertaining her with the other booths available.  She was so sweet to go back and win a few items for sister.  I could just squeeze her.

We were very sad to say good-bye to Daddy this week.  Getting up at 4 am Monday morning to drive to the airport is no fun, especially for good-byes like this.  We've been taking pix and sending good-night videos of our tuck-in times, via the iPhone.  Too sweet.

Have I mentioned how proud I am of this girl?  Seriously.  I'll have to work on posting a video soon.  Because you asked, of course.  ;)

We voted.  Well, I did.  I even made sure Mr. OCD Volunteer Man knew that I was not letting the girls push the buttons to cast my vote.  I understand the law.  I was simply educating them in the process.  He made 2 trips to oversee that, then a 3rd to offer candy to my girls.  A privacy curtain would be nice next time.  Are those only reserved for presidential elections?  Oi.

I'm pretty sure that I've saved my children at least 2,583,899 calories in refusing candy, cake, ice cream, cookies in their lifetime.  Not to mention, several colds, croupy coughs, and rotting teeth.  Why do people continually offer free junk food to my kids.  It's irritating.  Am I the only one who thinks that way?  I'm guessing no.  {I'm especially irritated when people ask me if our girls can have junk food -right in front of those little ears- so that I get to be the bad guy.  Grrr...}

Moving on.

Good news... It was chilly outside.  We were so excited to wear our jackets!  :)  I know.  My northern friends can laugh at me now.  And we may take all of you up on those 'house-exchange offers' during our middle of summer weather.  I mean, I wouldn't want you to miss out on the sweltering warm mosquito laden beach weather.

I kid.  I wouldn't do that to you. ;)

The girls and I spent the rest of the afternoon, after voting, decorating for Christmas.  It was an all-day project going up and down the attic and decorating 2 trees, but it's done... and we are now enjoying it.  Sigh.  It's still hard to believe Christmas is just around the corner.

Guess what the newest fad is within the dance group??  Bows made out of...

wait for it...

wait for it...

Duct Tape.  Yep, I made bows using duct tape.  I made one for each of Gracie's teammates on the Jr. competition team.  It was a great bribe reward for getting Gracie to clean her room.

Fun with friends.

Gracie recently wondered out loud what it would be like to go to public school.  She only voiced this because she said it seemed like all of her friends go to public school.  Not true, by the way.  I reminded her of the many perks of homeschooling, and she now denies that her words were ever muttered.  ;)

I realize that most of our activities, this year, don't involve socializing with many other homeschoolers, so I knew of a way to remedy that.  We re-joined a local homeschooling group.

My poor calendar.  I believe it said, "You've got to be kidding me."

Most of the girls were being too shy to pose in a picture, but this sweet young lady also happens to be on the same dance competition team with Gracie this year.  Small world, yes?  All 3 of them sported their leopard duct tape bows.  ha.

Granny came to town!  It was such a treat for us to have her this weekend.  And such a great distraction while hubby is out of town.

This is where he is...

Yep.  That's moose... crossing the street.  Can you guess where?  ;)

  5. This post is so full of fun and funny that I really just want to jump through the computer and have coffee with you so we can chat it up! Our voting experience was so different--we voted early and the old people volunteers just ate up the boys and wanted them to take the ballot, help me out and drop it in the slot! I did pick the people to vote for... I would love to see a piano clip! I'm giving Cloe lessons--we could use some inspiration! Love those bows--too cute! Have a great week!

  6. Love the zebra bow - I'll have to share with my SIL - my niece is on a cheerleading squad that uses a lot of zebra stuff.

Your girls are great. I wish I could have been there when you were voting - I would have taken the candy from the nosy man :)

  8. I'm voting for Alaska too!

Duct tape bows - lovin' em! Makes me wonder what else you can do with a roll of zebra print duct tape...

Jackets - we actually got to shed ours this weekend - it was in the balmy 60's! I would so trade you climates any day (except maybe June-August...) ;)

Christmas tree - BEAUTIFUL! If it were up to me, ours would be up already too! But my husband is very traditional in making us wait until the day after Thanksgiving. But I say it's so much work, it's worth having it up for November too! :)

Lovin' your posts! Can't wait for next week's! :)

  9. I vote Maine.

I am so jealous that your (beautiful!!) Christmas tree is up. My would be too, except my husband has rules about such things. :)

You are entirely too cute in that hat!

  10. Candy deprived will end up with b.e.a.u.tiful teeth like yours!
So that's where green eggs and ham come from.
Christmas already??? You've got to be kidding!

  11. I commend you for declining all those junk-food offers for your kids, even if it DOES make you the bad guy. I'm afraid I'm not quite so good about that. I almost always give in, even when the adult has some brains(!!) and asks me privately for permission. (I guess it's my utter inability to say "no" to people.)

Love the idea of sending good-night kisses, etc. via phone. I may have to do that!! (Paul is out-of-town tonight and will be again the first part of next week.)

Duct tape bows, huh? Well, at least they're frugal. Could be like my generation at that age, when the HUGE thing was having a pair of $100 Guess jeans. I'll take duct tape bows instead, please.

    Alaska?!
