Mama is not MIA. No, she's just walking on the ceiling.

Let me preface this by saying that I love my girls dearly and wouldn't trade them for the world!!

You see, when I’m out and about with my two lil’ angels, there are times (albeit few and far between) that their actions are not so angelic. Gasp! I know. Hard to believe, huh? Taking one is a piece of cake. Well, unless something like this happens. Taking two? Let’s just say that when you add sibling rivalry to the mix, you get one crazy Mama!

“Why can’t you both just get along?!”

A-Nator replies, “Mom, we’re sisters. We’re supposed to fight.”

There was once a feud over a blanket. I put my referee cap on and told them to apologize. All was well in the world once again… except for the grumpy attitudes that lingered. Laughter is like a good medicine, right? Well, I instructed them to laugh for 5 minutes. Yep. That was their “punishment”. It worked. We mostly laughed at how silly we all felt… to the point that Gracie got hiccups.

I ask, “Now… let’s not ruin our friendship over a blanket, okay?”

“Friendship?!!”

A-Nator corrected me by saying, "It’s Sister-ship”.

Just don’t let anyone else come against their sister. I love that about them. And honestly... my girls DO get along well for being with each other sooo much. Homeschool, remember? ;)

Back to my point.

Everyone knows the definition of insanity…
Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Well, that’s me. I do… or SAY the same thing over and over again. The famous “Mom Song” ring a bell? Some days I think the insanity starts to creep in just from singing that crazy song every day.

When Mama says, “Clean your room.” Yes, that means ALL of it!

  • The misc paper and band-aid trash IN the trash. (What's with all the boo-boos anyway?)
  • Put dirty laundry in the basket. (Even though I just asked yesterday if you had any dirty clothes while I was washing. The laundry is never really done, huh?) Oh, and NO clean and neatly folded clothes are to be dumped in the laundry basket!
  • Find homes for the misc pieces of toys I have forgotten what they originally belonged to.
  • Please unpack your suitcase of clothes you brought to Granny’s weeks ago (maybe this is why we cannot find any clothes to wear or is it because of the clothes that lived on the floor never to be cleaned?), etc, etc…
You get the idea.
This seems so trivial. I know that in the grand scheme of things, it is. However, when Mama has been feeling just a little under the weather, company will be staying in the child's room and we postponed chores to go on a road trip with Daddy and I ask for help… Please don’t ask me to check your room for inspection 538 times before it’s really clean. Mama has other chores to do as well.
Please do not shove everything into the corners of your room, the bottom of your closet or under your bed. Please lock this into your brain, “If you do it right the first time, you will NOT have to re-do it and it will not take as long.”
Do I need to remind you that I am NOT taking you to the ER for hyperventilating because you have been asked to simply clean your room? Imagine me trying to explain that.
Oh. And WHY is Mom walking on the ceiling you ask? Well, my kids have driven me up the wall… as I say.
But then I remember this. What’s really important?
Oi.
Hopefully our guest will forgive me for not checking my girl's room one last time. Checking it 539 times may have sent me through the roof!
Just don't look under her bed. I didn't either.

Keepin' it real...

  3. Oh my goodness! No offence, but I'm glad to hear that there are other children in the world who ocasionally (sp?) act like mine!

    Blessings to you H-Mama!

  4. Oh, absolutely the truth! My daughter, now 15 1/2 STILL cleans her room that way if she can get by with it!
And one of the best punishments for her...to go stare at herself in the mirror for 5 minutes. This was usually assigned if her countenance had been hateful in appearance for some time. Always worked. LOL

And, I wouldn't know what to do if my girls were not arguing and bickering every day. You're not alone.
