Something I do each day

What do I do every day?

I don't remember listening to a lot of Amy Grant music, but for some reason I remember this song...

HATS

The sun comes up
The breakfast show
Can't you see me running
It's crazy don't you know?
The moon is high
I'm working through the night
Will somebody tell me
Where do all the hours go?
Well it don't stop
No, its never gonna stop
Why do I have to wear so many things on my head?
Hats!
One day I'm a mother
One day I'm a lover
What am I supposed to do?
Hats!
Working for a livin'
All because I'm driven
To be the very best for you.
The water is hot
The phone don't stop
So how do I manage
To hold on to my sanity
The red dress on
Time for having fun
But can I really be the girl you see in me?
The spirit is willing
But the flesh is weak
Why do I have to wear so many things on my head?
Hats!
One day I'm a mother
One day I'm a lover
What am I supposed to do?
Hats!
Working for a livin'
All because I'm driven
To be the very best for you...

I think most of us struggle with balance. So many roles to fill at any given time. Which hat should I photograph today? Nurse, counselor, educator, housekeeper, home decorator, event coordinator, gardener, accountant, dog walker and groomer, clothes stylist, menu planner and chef, chauffeur, hairstylist... to name a few. They're all found under the description of wife, mom... woman.

Do you ever feel like you're exhausted at the end of the day yet feel like you didn't accomplish much? I have to tell you that I hope out of all my 'hats', I've remembered to wear the most important ones the best.

This is a picture of my Gracie after being tucked in for bedtime. We love our bedtime ritual. We always read a Bible story, chat, giggle and pray. We always end it like this:

Mom & Dad: "Do you know what?"

Gracie: "I know. You don't have to tell me every day. If you lined up all the 7 yr olds in the world, you would still pick me and if you lined up all the Gracie's in the world, you would still pick me and I love you infinity and beyond... and don't you forget it."

Mom & Dad: "Sweet Princess Dreams..."
(and then we do the same thing with A-Nator... sweet memories.)

Friday's theme is "Something Old". According to my girls, that shouldn't be hard. :-/

That was me, yesterday. Got into bed and thought, what did I accomplish? We may never know. We may find out sometime in the futer...

  3. Great photo. So sweet. At the end of most days I am exhausted, but I really did nothing physical to make me that way I am just mentally and emotionally drained.

  5. Adorable. And in the end, the mom/wife/woman are really the three hats that matter most, aren't they?

As an aside, what kind of dolly is she squeezing?

  7. For many years, I was a huge Amy Grant fan (still am, but I do listen to other people now!) and my kids, 22,20, and 16, know ALL of the lyrics to her songs, even this one! Sometimes they just burst out singing "Hats!" thanks for the memory!

  8. We used to say the same thing to our little girls. Sweet picture. And, you're right ... always searching for balance and most of the time coming up short, but we still try.
