I'm a ton o' fun {Random 12, #9}

It's that time again!
Thanks, Linda, for another thought provoking meme.
Feel free to join in the fun and link up...

1. Tell me something about your favorite teacher.

My high school music teacher.  He was such a professional who orchestrated music for churches and schools all at the same time... Yet, he still had time to practice and travel with us at various competitions.   {Oh... and he's the one who had me on stage singing the Star Spangled Banner a cappella.  *shivers*}

2. Tell me about one pivotal moment in your life.
Hmmm... I would have to say that the biggest most {recent} pivotal moment was resigning our church in 2006.  Stepping down from {institutional} church ministry altogether.  There are many layers to that onion ladies and gentleman.  It's all good.  ;)

3. About favorite colors--a lot of people will ask you what it is, but I want to know why it is. What feeling or memory does it evoke?
I can't pick just one... love them all {well, with the exception of bright orange. I'm not sure why.}.
I love earth tones with splashes of cranberry red for my home {it's a work in progress}.  It relaxes me.
Red, green, brown, turquoise and black to wear.  After years of trial and error, these colors bring me the most compliments when worn.
Brown was a color my mom decorated with {crazy striped sofa} and drove {VW}, so I never thought I would still have so much brown in my life.  Oh... and just for the record, my car is not brown and my sofa is a solid shade of brown... Thank you very much.  ;)
Pink because... Well, it makes me feel girlie, I suppose.

4. What's a sure sign that you're getting older?
When you can do origami with your skin {especially if one has had big pregnancies in their lifetime} or it takes several hours for the pillow marks to leave your face.  Not that I would know anything about that.  Ahem... {Tip:  A satin pillow case will help with that.  It's great for the hair too!}

5. Please don't sermonize, but Halloween--is it a yes or no for you?
Sure.  I guess with everything, it's mostly how you choose to interpret it, right?  {Birthday cakes/candles have an interesting history, but that doesn't slow us down either.}  :)    We don't participate in the spooky-ooky stuff on Halloween.  We take the girls out to collect $$ for UNICEF, then head over to a popular kids' place for family fun and a costume contest.

6. What's your favorite musical?
Personally, I've been to very few... but hubs and I went to The Lion King a few years ago and loved it.   We also went to a musical in NY last year as well, but let's not talk about that one. {Tip: Never take the advice of one waiter without doing more research.}

7. Are you more of a city mouse or country mouse?
I'm stuck in the middle wanting the best of both worlds.  A country feel with the convenience of the big city nearby {and having the grocery store within a few miles from home}.

8. Did you know that it is possible, for a small fee, to name a real star after someone? (It's true! Google it!) If someone were to name a star for you, would you appreciate it for its whimsy and romance, or would you say, "Are you kidding me? For $19.95 we could have gone to the movie and actually bought popcorn."
Years ago, maybe.  I'm probably too practical for something like that now.  I've recently discovered thrift store shopping {and wonder why I haven't done this before??}.  Do you know how many outfits I could buy for my girls for $19.95?  Especially on their 1/2 off days!  I'm talkin' good stuff too!  Gap, Children's Place, Limited Too, etc..

This question comes from Paula at His Ways Are Not Our Ways.
9. What's the craziest thing you've ever been doing and texted during it? I only thought of this b/c I was about to try to text during my walking video but I didn't.  Paula, you do know that this blog is rated G, right?
Hmmm... Conveniently, I cannot think of anything out of the ordinary at the moment.  ;)

10. "It's not a party unless _______."
"...there's food and music."   Hello?  It's a given, right? Ha!

11. When you're stuck in traffic or a waiting room, what do you do to pass the time?  PS: There are no magazines available.
Am I with the kids or without?  With: Probably I-Spy or something really silly like this.  Without: Catch up on text messages, listen to music, sit quietly with my thoughts, read and/or make to-do lists.  I know.  I'm the life of the party.

12. If you weren't yourself, would you be friends with you?
Of course.  To steal my hubby's quote, "To know me is to love me."  Ha!  No, seriously... I'm a pretty reserved person, so it may take a little time, but yes {if I do say so myself}.  ;)

And in other news...

I awoke with some news that put a damper on my day.
I needed a lil' boost of encouragement.
I know...
Let's go to Starbucks, girls!

I won a gift certificate from Jamie @ Six Bricks High
and put it to good use.
{Thanks again, Jamie!}
A mug to be a constant reminder of a sweet bloggy friend.
It was on sale.  Love. it.
And...
I was {kind of} good.
I skipped the chai tea... but splurged on some {low-fat} coffee cake with the girls.

For all those who were worried that Gracie wouldn't get to indulge in her sweet tooth from yesterday's post, you may now breathe a sigh of relief.  She actually ate dessert before her "berokley" and rice for dinner.  Gasp!  That never happens in our house, but sometimes I gotta bend the rules a little.

Yeah, I'm a cool mom.

  1. Origami with skin -- that's funny! But oh too true.

    On the stage with the National Anthem a cappella! Wow! Hope someone kept a recording for posterity. I sang Amahl on stage in Jr. High and there's no recording...just photos. But I think about the notes I used to be able to hit and go, "ow!"

  11. I should have mentioned the pillow-face trauma - some days it doesn't smooth out until lunch time!

  12. Katie, you had a great reason. Twins. ;) I was only {constantly} asked if I was expecting twins. Doctor just told me to slow down on the orange juice. That's when I learned that too much of a good thing is still too much. Ha!
